A2L refrigerants in New York

The 2025 Mechanical Code of New York State (effective Dec 31, 2025) is based on the 2024 IMC, including its Chapter 11 A2L provisions. 19 NYCRR Part 1223 amends only Chapter 1 titles and some Chapter 15 references (for example ASHRAE 34-2022). It makes no Chapter 11 changes. NYC is separate (see below).

Local amendments & things to watch

  • New York City uses its own 2022 NYC Construction Codes (Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas and Building), enforced by NYC DOB, not the state code. verified source
